History was written under the lights as Mengo City Lady Stormers stormed into the quarterfinals of the maiden Women’s Futsal Uganda Cup, defeating Lubiri She Falcons 3–1 in a dramatic knockout encounter that lived up to its pre-match promise.
The landmark fixture burst into life almost immediately. Just four minutes in, Angel Nakitto announced herself on the big stage, finishing clinically to give Mengo City an early lead and ignite the crowd.
Before Lubiri could settle, Nakitto struck again in the 7th minute, completing a stunning early brace and putting the Lady Stormers firmly in control.
Mengo City’s fast start reflected everything head coach Nsamba Ronald had emphasized in the build-up — courage, expression, and belief. With Namatovu Sharon anchoring play as the attacking reference point, the Lady Stormers dominated possession and tempo, heading into halftime with a deserved advantage.
The second half brought renewed intensity as Lubiri She Falcons pushed higher, driven by the attacking intent of Atugonza Phionah and Kisaakye Sheebah. However, Mengo City remained composed. Their patience paid off in the 34th minute when Shanita Nalubwama finished off a well-worked move to extend the lead to 3–0, seemingly putting the contest beyond reach.
To their credit, the She Falcons refused to fold. Just a minute later, Edith Najjuma pulled one back in the 35th minute, rewarding Lubiri’s persistence and briefly threatening a late comeback.
Nevertheless, Mengo City’s defensive discipline and game management saw them close out the match with authority.
Speaking after the final whistle, Mengo City head coach Nsamba Ronald reflected on both the result and its wider significance:
“This was more than just a win. The girls played with courage and confidence, exactly as we talked about. Angel showed great quality early, and the team stayed disciplined throughout. We are proud to be part of history and proud to be moving forward.”
Lubiri She Falcons head coach Lady Nalweyiso Resty praised her players’ spirit despite the defeat:
“This match meant a lot for our players and for women’s futsal. We showed heart, especially in the second half. Edith’s goal showed our character. We’ll take lessons from this and keep building our identity.”
