Hooray, Hooray! Kawempe FC Secures Historic First Win in betPawa FSL

After a long and challenging season, Kawempe FC has finally tasted victory in the 2023/24 betPawa Futsal Super League.

On Thursday evening, they defeated Edgars Youth Programme 5-2 at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena, securing their first points and win of the season.

The bottom-placed side started strong, with Ashraf Walugembe scoring the opener in the seventh minute. However, Edgars equalized just three minutes later through an own goal by Imran Mubiru. The first half ended 1-1, despite both teams’ efforts to score again.

After the restart, Walugembe put Kawempe ahead once more, and Sulaiman Kasozi added another goal to make it 3-1 by the 26th minute.

Edgars pulled one back from a set-piece, but Kasozi scored two more goals in the latter stages of the game, securing Kawempe’s first victory of the season.

This historic win marks a significant turning point for the team, who had previously lost all 19 games this season.

Kawempe’s fans can finally celebrate a long-awaited win, and the team will look to build on this momentum in their last two matches against Lubaga Grameen and Aidenal FC.

Other Games Played on Thursday

In addition to Kawempe FC’s historic win, other league games were played on Thursday. Nansana ASKA staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Kabowa Dream Team 6-3 after trailing by a goal. Ali Miti and Sinani Kiyaga led the charge, each scoring twice. Meanwhile, already-crowned 2023/24 betPawa FSL champions Park FC enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over KJT FC, who failed to show up on the field.
