The Futsal Association Uganda (FAU) has officially confirmed Twinbrook Schools as hosts of the maiden FAU – Primary Schools league, marking a major milestone in the structured introduction of futsal at primary school level in Uganda.

The league is designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and development-focused sporting platform for young learners, while aligning sport with education and holistic child growth.

The competition will feature primary schools entering both boys’ and girls’ teams across defined age categories, reinforcing FAU’s commitment to gender balance and equal opportunity.

The age groups include Primary 7/U13 (February–March), Primary 6/U12 (June–July), and Primary 5/U11 (October–November), with all coaching methods, educational content, and match formats adapted to the physical, mental, and social development of the pupils.

Futsal, a FIFA-recognised five-a-side game, will be the foundation of the league. Played on a reduced-size court with smaller goals and a low-bounce ball, futsal emphasizes frequent ball contact, quick decision-making, creativity, and teamwork.

With unlimited substitutions and no offside rule, the game ensures maximum participation, safety, and enjoyment for school-going children, both boys and girls.

Speaking on hosting the competition, Twinbrook Schools Director, Hajj Jaffer Senganda, welcomed the initiative and highlighted its educational value. “We are honoured to host the maiden FAU Primary Schools League. This competition goes beyond winning trophies; it supports discipline, teamwork, confidence, and healthy lifestyles among pupils. Sport is an extension of education, and futsal gives our children a chance to learn life skills while enjoying the game in a safe and structured environment,” Senganda said.

Each participating school will register 20 pupils per team, including players, pupil referees, pupil coaches or sports prefects, and a pupil media representative. This structure is intentionally educational, exposing learners to multiple roles within sport such as leadership, officiating, and communication.

The league will run on three competition dates—20th February, 27th February, and 6th March 2026, featuring group-stage matches, semi-finals, finals, and classification games.

FAU Chief Executive Officer Mugera Ibrahim emphasized the long-term vision of the league.

“The Primary Schools League is about building the foundation of Ugandan futsal. We want children to learn the game early, enjoy it, and grow through it academically, socially, and athletically. This league creates pathways not only for players, but also for future coaches, referees, and sports leaders,” Mugera noted.

With affordable participation fees, full league management, medical support, refereeing, and media coverage included, the Futsal Primary Schools League 2026 stands as a powerful model of how sport can positively shape education.

FAU now calls upon primary schools to confirm participation and be part of a pioneering programme that uses futsal as a tool for learning, character building, and national sports development, confirmations closing 10th February 2026 5pm.
