The inaugural FUFA-FAU Young Referees Course successfully concluded on Friday, graduating 24 students from Kabowa Hill School. The course, held from March 17 to April 21, 2024, aimed to develop Futsal at the grassroots level by enhancing students’ knowledge and skills.
Organized by FAU in collaboration with FUFA and Zannya Africa Foundation, the course featured comprehensive theoretical and practical sessions led by experienced Futsal Referees instructors Mulindwa Ismail, Erias Kafeero, and Nsubuga Brian Emmy.
Nsubuga emphasized the course’s objective: “We introduced students to Futsal, aiming to involve young people in its development in Uganda. With only ten national referees, these youngsters will play a vital role in officiating school and junior Futsal leagues.”

Out of 37 enrolled students, 24 successfully completed the course and received certificates. Faridah Masudi, a participant, praised the course: “I’ve gained valuable knowledge, including Futsal’s laws and core principles. I’m eager to apply my skills and highly recommend this course to students across Uganda.”
Najjuma Kuluthum, FAU Excom Member and Zannya Africa Foundation representative, highlighted ZAF’s role in this course: “As FAU’s partner, ZAF empowers communities through sports and recreation activities, focusing on supporting junior referees’ career growth, providing training and guidance, and offering mentorship programs in life skills.”

The partnership aims to positively impact junior referees’ lives and the broader community.
