The stage is set,the wait is finally over and it’s finally go-time as the 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup gets underway on Friday evening at O’Kla Futsal Arena with a group A tie between Edgar’s Youth Programme and Makerere University.
These two teams, along with 13 others will battle for the prestigious prize this year.
This opener between Edgars and Makerere promises to be a cracker as both sides will be making their maiden debuts in this tournament that started in 2017.
Speaking on the eve of the opener, Makerere University Head Coach Douglas Bamweyana said despite this being a new competition for him and his side, they are reasonably well prepared to take on the task.

“This is new territory for us – but we are Makerere University and our intention in all we engage in is to be the best!” Bamweyana said.
“We are reasonably well prepared – but will certainly grow into the game and learn fast as we get more players returning when the semester starts in two weeks time.”
“For now we have prepared with those available in and around the campus”
This competition returns bigger and better after a two-year hiatus due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
15 teams have been pitted in four groups consisting of four teams each. The top two from each group will progress to a knock-out quarterfinal round to decide the four teams which will progress to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals, just like the final will be played in the best-of-3 format to decide the winner.
The winner of this tournament will play the 2023/24 Futsal Super League winner in the Futsal Super Cup early next year.
