FC Luzira dig deep to overcome Edgars Youth Programme
FC Luzira started their 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup journey with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Edgars Youth Programme at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena on Friday evening.
The Luzira side had to dig deep to score two late goals in order to defeat Edgars’ who had proved difficult to penetrate.
With all signs pointing to a Luzira loss, 2022/23 Futsal Super League topscorer Omara Samuel stepped up while it mattered most to firstly level matters at 3-all, and later score a later winner with arguably the last kick of the game.
Earlier on, Wasswa Amiri had scored two goals to add on Brian Olwa’s opener. This put Edgars 3-2 up after Luzira’s two goals were scored by Aziku Joshua and Ogwang Joel.
With the victory and having played just one game, Luzira move to three points and are now level on points in Group A with Edgars, who have played a game more.
Luzira will play Makerere University next in their last group stages game while Edgars’ group stages games are now over.
“I feel happy to be on the score sheet today but most importantly helping my team get a hard fought win, they are a good team that play together but by God’s grace we are grateful for the win.” Luzira FC captain Omara said after the game before adding. “We shall work upon a few mistakes and we shall win our next games.”
The 2023 Futsal Uganda Cup games will resume next Friday with two group B games. Kabowa Dream Team will play ASKA, while Friends of Football will battle First Touch Sports FC.
