The Futsal Uganda Cup serves up another high-stakes encounter on Friday night as Edgars Youth Programme lock horns with Grameen FC, with a coveted quarterfinal place hanging in the balance.

This one-leg knockout tie renews a rivalry that has grown steadily intense and evenly matched over the past two seasons. Since 2024, the two sides have met four times, each recording two victories — a clear indication of how closely contested this fixture has become.

Lubaga Grameen enjoyed early supremacy, claiming back-to-back wins in 2024, including an emphatic 11–7 away victory. However, the tide has turned in recent meetings. Edgars Youth Programme responded strongly in 2025 with successive wins — a 5–3 away triumph followed by a commanding 5–0 home victory.

The goal statistics further highlight the razor-thin margins between the two teams, with Edgars scoring 20 goals across the four meetings, just one more than Lubaga’s 19.

Lubaga Grameen head coach Kato Swaib views the cup tie as an opportunity for a fresh start.

“The past games don’t play the next one. We respect Edgars, but this is knockout football. We’ve worked on our defensive organization and transitions, and I believe this is the right moment for us,” Kato said.

Edgars Youth Programme head coach Masembe Adam, meanwhile, emphasized focus and discipline ahead of the decisive clash.

“Lubaga are dangerous, especially in big games. We’ve learned from every meeting, and the boys understand that the cup demands discipline and hunger for every minute,” Masembe noted.

Key players are expected to shape the outcome. Lubaga Grameen will rely on the composure and leadership of defender Segirinya Bruno, alongside captain and playmaker Imran Seguya, the creative heartbeat of the side. For Edgars, the spotlight will fall on Olwa Brian, whose movement, finishing, and work rate have driven their recent success.
