Mengo City has made a double sweep of the betPawa Futsal Super League Awards for the Month of January.
The team’s Head Coach, Abdifatah Abdullahi, has been voted the Luka Pharmacy Coach of the Month, while star player Samuel Omara has been named the Ssaka Bulk Hauliers Player of the Month.
To win his award ahead of strong contenders Park’s Michael Abura and Edgars’ Brian Olwa, Omara won both the public and technical department votes, demonstrating his impressive performance and popularity among fans and officials alike.

In the public vote, which accounted for 40% of the total vote and was conducted on Twitter and Instagram, the Mengo City defender garnered 55% of the votes, translating to 22% of the total vote.Omara’s dominance continued in the technical vote, which accounted for 60% of the total vote, as he secured 51% of the votes. This convincing win in both the public and technical votes cemented his position as the Ssaka Bulk Hauliers Player of the Month, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Mengo City’s success in the league. Notably, Mengo City finished January unbeaten, a testament to the team’s strong performance and Omara’s key role in their success.
Meanwhile, Abdifatah Abdullahi’s win as Luka Pharmacy Coach of the Month was also a hard-fought one. He beat off strong competition from Kabuusu Clouds’ Richard Lukyamuzi and Park FC’s Sulaiman Matovu, ultimately emerging victorious by winning the technical vote.

Although he finished second in the public vote, behind Lukyamuzi, Abdifatah’s success in the technical vote was enough to secure him the award. Despite garnering only 11.6% of the public vote, which accounted for 40% of the total vote, Abdifatah’s impressive showing in the technical vote, where he secured 43% of the votes, proved to be the decisive factor. This accounted for 60% of the total votes, and ultimately earned him the Luka Pharmacy Coach of the Month award.
This double win is a historic achievement for Mengo City, as it marks the first time a club has won both the Ssaka Bulk Hauliers Player of the Month and Luka Pharmacy Coach of the Month awards in the same month.
Previous winners of the Ssaka Bulk Hauliers Player of the Month award include Abasi Muluya Junior (Park FC) and Gaddafi Bazanyanengo (Kabuusu Clouds), while Najib AbdulRazak (Crown Lubiri) and Farouk Makumbi are among the coaches who have previously won the Luka Pharmacy Coach of the Month award.
